Dodge City - Lois Nadine Higley, 92, died March 2, 2019 at Manor of the Plains in Dodge City.  She was born on May 26, 1926 at Morrison, Colorado daughter of Lee and Josephine (Ratlaff) Duke.

At the age of two, Nadine moved back to Dodge City with her parents. She attended a country school north of town, and completed eighth grade at Bell Center School. She married her childhood sweetheart, Thomas Higley, on August 14, 1945 in Greensburg. He preceded her in death on January 5, 2007; together they had celebrated 61 and a half years of marriage.

Nadine enjoyed crocheting, embroidery, jigsaw puzzles, and reading. For one Christmas, she made scrapbooks for her daughters and grandchildren. She was also the family historian.

She was a member of the First Christian Church of Dodge City.

Nadine is survived by daughter, Judy Blackburn (Wayne); grandchildren, Bandi Allen (Jeff), Cindi Thomas (Chris), Gini Trent (Shane), Michael Rieman (Michelle), and Brigham Blackburn (Debra); daughter, Marilyn Nelson; grandchildren, Melanie Harshberger (Gary) and Aaron Nelson (Holly); and as a loving grandmother she would proudly boast 26 great grandchildren and 18 great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Thomas; one grandson, Tanner Fitzsimmons; and two sisters, Frances Rumsey and Elizabeth Jones.

Funeral service will be held at Swaim Funeral Chapel in Dodge City on Friday, March 8, 2019 at 1:00 PM with Dusty Cookson presiding.  Burial will follow at Maple Grove Cemetery in Dodge City.  Visitation will be at Swaim Funeral Chapel in Dodge City on Thursday, March  7, 2019 from 12:00 PM to 8:00 PM with the family present 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM.  Memorials are suggested to Manor of the Plains in Dodge City in care of the funeral home.  Thoughts and memories may be shared in the online guest book at www.swaimfuneralhome.com.
