IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Nadine Bartlett
Schmidt
June 26, 1927 – May 1, 2020
Montezuma - Our dear mother, grandmother and great grandmother, Nadine Bartlett Schmidt, was born on June 26, 1927, to Hiram Ernest and Sina Cantwell Bartlett, at Newcastle, Oklahoma. She passed away in the early morning hours of May 1, 2020, at Bethel Home, Montezuma, Kansas, reaching the age of 92 years.
During her childhood her family moved to various places in the community. They often had relatives living with them and had a lot of company. Her education was received at various schools including Valley View and graduated from Meridan High School, both in Grady County, Oklahoma.
On August 22, 1947, our mother married Walter Schmidt, at Chickasha, Oklahoma. They lived at different locations in the Chickasha community, eventually settling on a corner of the old Pete Schmidt home place, west of Chickasha, that was home for them for 34 years. In 2012, they moved to Bethel Home, where she resided until her passing One daughter and one son were born to this union.
Our mother loved the outdoors and could be seen with her bonnet on, hoe in hand, working in the garden or yard. She spent many hours working side by side with our dad in the fields. She loved to be on the tractor. Her statement was that she wanted to help. Even though she loved being outdoors, she was a meticulous housekeeper, making sure everything was in order before going outside.
Mother had a conversion experience and was baptized in the Baptist faith. When our dad gave his heart to the Lord, she also wanted to be united with him in the faith, stating that she didn't want a divided home. They were both baptized into the Church of God in Christ, Mennonite, on March 4,1962, at Chickasha, by Minister Glen Nightingale, remaining true to her vows until the end.
Her two grandsons, their wives and great grandchildren each held a special place in her heart. One of her favorite memories was meeting her grandsons for the first time.
Those left to cherish her memory are one daughter, Kathy; one son, Phillip and wife, Barbara; two grandsons, Rusty and wife, Nancy, and Dustin and wife, Lynette; and ten great grandchildren, all of Chickasha; one sister, Ruby Rayburn, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; one sister-in-law, Selma Bartlett, of Henderson, Nevada; one niece; and six nephews. Preceding her in death were her parents and parents-in-law; husband, Walter; three brothers; one sister; seven brothers-in-law and seven sisters-in-law.
We want to thank each one for your love and support during this time.To the Bethel Home staff, residents and community at large, a sincere "Thank you" for being a part of Mother's family away from home.
Due to the pandemic, no traditional funeral services are permitted. Graveside service will be held on May 5, 2020 at Plainview Church Cemetery, Chickasha, Oklahoma, with Ministers Robert Schmidt and Kyle Ratzloff officiating. Memorials are suggested to Bethel Home in care of Swaim Funeral Chapel - PO Box 421-Montezuma, Kansas 67867. Thoughts and memories may be shared in the online guest book at www.swaimfuneralhome.com.
