Obituary

Montezuma - Neil Krahn Peters was born on October 16, 1967, to John and Elizabeth Peters at Rubio, Chihuahua, Mexico.  He was the 13 th of 17 children.  His life was tragically taken in a vehicle accident as the sun was setting on September 22, 2021, reaching the age of 53 years.

When Neil was 15 years old, he left home and went to Canada with some of his friends.  After being in Canada for 10 months, he went back to Mexico for a short time before moving to Big Spring, Texas.  During the time Neil lived in Texas, he made trips back to Mexico to visit and attend doctrine class.  He was baptized into the Kleine Gemeinde church at Camp 105.

When Neil was 23 years old, he went back to Mexico to marry Tina Neufeld on October 7, 1990.   Ten days later, he took his bride and settled at Big Spring, Texas.  In 1993, they made another move, this time settling in Montezuma, Kansas.  To this union were born a son and three daughters, who were his pride and joy.

Shortly after moving to Montezuma, they became acquainted with Ivan and Norma Jantz.  This started a special lifelong friendship.  Ivan introduced them to the Church of God in Christ Mennonite.  Neil recognized God calling him often, and he would long to respond.  One special memory of the family is of a time when he was visiting in Bradley, Arkansas, and he had an experience with God.  Upon returning home, he gathered his family together for their first family devotions.  Dad wasn't perfect, he had his struggles; but in recent years he had made a real effort to form friendships with his children.  He took a special interest in his two grandchildren. He often stopped by unexpectedly to spend a little time with them.

Dad provided for his family by trading equipment, custom harvesting, and trucking together with his son.  He was a very social person, with a gift for making many acquaintances while searching for equipment to trade.  He could learn anything he put his mind to.  He spoke four languages, picking up two of them on his own while working.

Left to cherish fond memories are his wife, Tina, one son Harry; 3 daughters; Stephanie, Tiffany and husband Tyler Hogie all of Montezuma; Charity and husband Ty Koehn of Winton California. Two grandchildren, Kaiya and Brantley Hogie.  He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother.
