Obituary

Montezuma - Norma Jean Smith Unruh joined her family in Heaven on Christmas morning, December 25th, 2014. She was born in Fairview, Oklahoma on September 5, 1928 to Dan and Katie (Nightengale) Smith, the eighth of eleven children. The Smith family life was filled with love, song, adventure and humor.

She married the love of her life, Ervey Unruh, on September 12, 1948 in Fairview, Oklahoma. They were blessed with six children; Gailynn, Barbara, Greg, Debra, Marshall, and Dale.

Norma was a gifted and faithful partner with her husband Ervey in Christian Ministry and Evangelism for more than 50 years. They were called to minister across the U.S., Canada and Mexico teaching, proclaiming and living God's message of love and salvation.

With her talent and gift of a beautiful alto voice, Norma loved to sing and was a member of various musical groups that performed gospel concerts throughout Kansas, Oklahoma and Texas. She taught her children to sing and to love music. Her artistic talents included oil painting and many of her friends and family enjoy the beauty of her paintings in their homes and offices today.

As a busy mother of six children, Norma found strength and energy to pursue her dream of becoming a nurse. She attended Dodge City Community College graduating from the LPN program in 1968. She practiced her nursing profession for more than 40 years.

Norma is survived by her children Gail of Montezuma, Kansas; Barbara and husband Donald of San Antonio, Texas; Greg and wife Pam of Onaga, Kansas; Marshall and wife Janet of Ensign, Kansas; Dale and wife Janet of Montezuma, Kansas; eleven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren, and many close family and friends. Norma was preceded in death by her husband Ervey; daughter Debra; grandson Brandon Unruh; granddaughter Erin Ree Shackleford.
