IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Norma Fay
Nightingale
August 26, 1949 – February 6, 2023
Montezuma - Norma Fay (Koehn) Nightingale was born to Clifford and Ruth (Hughes) Koehn on August 26, 1949, in Delhi, California. She was fifth in a family of eight siblings. She quietly passed away at home, surrounded by her family, on February 6, 2023, at the age of 73.
Mom spent her childhood in Livingston, California area. On March 5, 1961, upon the confession of her faith, she was baptized into the Church of God in Christ Mennonite by Minister Jesse Koehn. To these vows, she remained faithful until the end.
At the age of 17, she was married to Winston Nightingale by (Grandad) Minister A. T. Koehn on December 16, 1966. To this union were born three children, a son and two daughters. Mom and Dad spent two years in CPS service in Oklahoma City where their first two children were born. After service in 1970, they moved back to Livingston, California where their youngest child was born. In the fall of 1973, they moved their family to Ulysses, Kansas, where they raised their family before moving to Montezuma in the fall of 1991. It was here that mom finally realized her lifelong dream to become a registered nurse.
Mom was interested in medicine and taking care of others from a young age. She spent countless hours over her lifetime, taking care of the terminally ill and their families, even working for one of the first Hospice agencies in the US. After graduating nursing school, Mom worked at Bethel Home, area Hospitals, and Hospice for the next 15 years, before lifelong health issues forced her to retire. Mom will always be remembered for her hard work and hospitality. She loved her family and in spite of her many physical ailments would spend countless hours in the kitchen every summer cooking and canning to provide the very best for her us.
Over the years many girls lived with Mom and Dad. They all have a special place in their hearts, especially Annetta (Newswanger) Isaac and the Gardner sisters. They are considered bonus family by us all.
Those left to cherish memories are her loving husband of 56 years, Winston of Montezuma; daughter, Yvonne of Plains, son, Sidney and wife Jeanette of Ulysses, and daughter, Kristi and husband Tracy Benner of Atmore Alabama; six grandchildren, one step granddaughter, two step great grandchildren, and a special "adopted" daughter, Martyanne and husband Keith Koehn of Othello Washington and their four children and one grandchild; sisters, Lora and Ivan Nightingale of Delhi California, Betty and Alice of Atwater California, and Mary and Raymond Koehn, also of Atwater California; brothers, Allen and Vera of Livingston California, Ronnie and Gail of Manteca California, and Larry and Rosemary of Fredonia Kansas; brother-in-law, Martin and Rita Nightingale of Scio Oregon; sister-in-law, Jewel Nightingale of Livingston, California; and two special nieces, Heather (Nightingale) Nowitzki and Hillary "Megan" Nightingale, along with many other nieces, nephews and friends. Preceding her in death were her parents, parents-in-law, one brother-in-law, one daughter-in-law, one great niece, and one great nephew.
