Olivia Amaro Torrez, 81, died March 15, 2011 at her residence in Dodge City. She was born on June 1, 1929 at Mexican Village in Dodge City the daughter of John and Petra Ruiz Amaro.
She attended schools in Dodge City. Olivia worked for the Harvey House, Fairmont Foods, Lora Locke Hotel, Fulmer Convalescent Home, Good Samaritan Center and then at Fort Dodge where she retired after 22 years. She married Paul V. Torrez in 1948 at Jetmore. He survives.
She was a member of Cathedral Of Our Lady Of Guadalupe of Dodge City.
Olivia is survived by her husband Paul V. Torrez, Sr.; a son Ronney Torrez of Dodge City; three daughters, Lucinda Torrez of Wichita, Rachel Torrez and Mary Ann Timion both of Dodge City; two brothers, Catatrino Amaro of Dodge City and Gilbert Amaro of Yukon, Oklahoma; four sisters, Santos Higareda, Nancy Zisumbo and Francis Zizumbo all of Ogden, Utah and Jane Hernandez of Los Angeles, California; 12 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren.
Olivia was preceded in death by a son, Paul Torrez, Jr.; three brothers, Victor and Simon Amaro and Matthew Pina; three sisters, Manuela Esquibel, Angela Esparza and Alex Zisumbo; two grandchildren and one great granddaughter.
Funeral mass will be held on Friday, March 18, 2011 at 2:30 P.M. at Cathedral Of Our Lady Of Guadalupe with Rev. Ted Skalsky presiding. Inurnment will follow at Maple Grove Cemetery in Dodge City. Vigil service will be 6:00 P.M. on Thursday, March 17 at Cathedral of Our Lady Of Guadalupe. Visitation will be from Noon to 5:00 P.M. Thursday, March 17 at Swaim Funeral Home.
