Opal Dell Barnes, 96, died December 29, 2010 at Villa Maria Nursing Home in Mulvane. She was born on June 26, 1914 in Ford County, daughter of Ernest and Ella F. (Fleming) Simmons.
Mrs. Barnes attended schools in Dodge City and Wichita. She married Cecil Barnes on April 18, 1934 in Dodge City. They moved to Wichita in 1942 and later moved back to Dodge City. Opal was a homemaker and also cooked for Lincoln School.
She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Dodge City.
Mrs. Barnes is survived by two daughters, Donna Clark of Belle Plaine and Joyce Barnes of Liberal; two grandchildren; five great grandsons; and three great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Cecil, on March 10, 1994.
Funeral service will be held at Swaim Funeral Home, Dodge City, on Monday, January 3, 2011 at 1:00 PM with Pastor Bill Prater and Mr. Doug Knudsen presiding. Burial will follow at Maple Grove Cemetery in Dodge City. Visitation will be at Swaim Funeral Home on Sunday, January 2, 2011 from noon to 6:00 PM.
