IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Osie Marie
Koehn
February 10, 1919 – September 10, 2017
Montezuma - Osie M. Koehn, 98, died September 10, 2017 at Bethel Home in Montezuma. She was born on February 10, 1919 in Cimarron, the daughter of Joe and Ida (Dirks) Koehn.
Osie was raised on the farm northeast of Cimarron. She attended Cimarron schools. On March 15, 1938, she married Dave F Koehn in Jetmore. He preceded her in death on October 1, 1990. After their marriage, they worked for a Mr. Burr at Ulysses for a year. During that time, they lived in a train caboose. Daddy and Momma, as we always fondly called them, then moved to Copeland.
In 1948, they bought the land in Finney County, south of Garden City and began their long farming career, which they both enjoyed. The soil was sandy and easily blew when the wind came up. Prospects for success greatly improved with the advent of irrigation wells. The family recalls ditches and siphon tubes and later the addition of sprinkler systems. Momma often helped in the fields. She enjoyed gardening and did a lot of canning. She also greatly enjoyed china painting. Many pieces were given away as gifts and there were still enough for grandchildren and great grandchildren. She also painted piggy banks for all the great grandchildren.
She was a member of the Plymell Church and was active in the Plymell Church Women's group.
Osie is survived by three daughters, Deanne Koehn and husband Dallas of Montezuma, Donna Lightner of Garden City, and Rose Mangan and husband Darrell also of Garden City; one brother, Lee Koehn of Montezuma; two sisters, Tillie Wedel of Montezuma and Kathy Becker and husband Melvin of Moundridge; 10 grandchildren; 22 great grandchildren; 17 great-great grandchildren. In addition to her husband, Dave, Osie is preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Jake and Pete Koehn; two sisters, Julia Buller and Carrie Tyler; one granddaughter, Ina Renee Koehn; and one great grandson, Bentley Cole Koehn.
Our family is grateful for the care Momma received from the staff while at Bethel Home.
