Dodge City - Patricia Lee (Ward) Skaggs passed from this life on August 23, 2020 in Dodge City, where she a resident at Trinity Manor Nursing Home for seven years after a stroke. She was born to Lester L. and Nora (Alexander) Ward on February 16, 1949 in Garden City.
Patricia graduated from Satanta High School in 1967 and entered Garden City Community College that fall. She was married to James Skaggs on November 23, 1968 and to that union were born two sons, Gerald L. Skaggs born in Asmara Ethiopia, Africa in 1971 and Sheldon L. Skaggs born in Okinawa, Japan in 1976. She followed her husband to several assignments while he served in the Army, including Ethiopia; Okinawa, Japan; and West Berlin, Germany. Patricia was active in Boy Scouts with her sons.
She moved to Hugoton in 1990 and was known for crocheted and plaster-work crafts. She belonged to the Church of God in Hugoton. In 1994 Patricia married her second husband Joe Graves of Hugoton and he passed away in 1997. They enjoyed his horses and often rode in parades together, in the area.
Pat is survived by two sons, Gerald Skaggs of Midway Park, North Carolina and wife Diane, and Sheldon Skaggs of Thorton, Colorado; and one grand daughter, Ashlee of NC; two sisters, Rosemary Ward Matthews of Siloam Springs, Arkansas and Bonnie Ward of Bedias, Texas; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Patricia was preceded in death by her parents; and two sisters, Evelyn Bowen and Barbara Bone.
Cremation has taken place and with the COVID-19 pandemic, a memorial is postponed until next year. Interment will take place in the Haskell County Cemetery near Sublette.
