Patrick A. Stegman, 80, died Monday, April 19, 2010 at Trinity Manor Nursing Home at Dodge City, KS. He was born on January 16, 1930 at Dodge City, KS the son of John and Theresia (Schaller) Stegman, of rural Offerle.
His family moved to Dodge City in 1939. He was a 1948 graduate of Dodge City High School. He served in the US Navy from 1948 to 1952, serving mainly aboard the USS Princeton as an aviation machinists mate. In 1955 he married Eileen Heronemus, of Ness City. He worked as an appliance repairman for several businesses in Dodge City, before starting his own business, Southwest Appliance Service.
Pat was a life time member of the Knights of Columbus and the V.F.W., a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Spearville and a 60 year member of Sacred Heart Cathedral in Dodge City.
He is survived by his wife, Eileen Stegman of the home, one daughter, Cindy Vierthaler and husband Bruce of Spearville; two sons, Michael Stegman and wife Tina of Dodge City and Anthony Stegman and wife Julie of Dodge City; one sister, Rita Heiland of Dodge City; nine granddaughters; one grandson; and three great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters,Carmelita Peintner and Beatrice (Snooky) Slattery; two brothers Norbert and Dennis; and one granddaughter, Beth Ann Vierthaler.
Funeral Mass will be held at Sacred Heart Cathedral, 905 Central, Dodge City, on Thursday, April 22, 2010 at 10:30 AM with Rev. Ted Skalsky presiding. Burial will follow at Greencrest Cemetery in Dodge City with Military Rites by Howard Gotschall Post # 1714. Visitation will be at Swaim Funeral Home on Wednesday, April 21, 2010 from 12:00 PM to 5:00 PM. Vigil service will be at Sacred Heart Cathedral on Wednesday April 21, 2010 at 7:00 PM . Memorials are sugested to the Knights of Columbus or Beth Ann Vierthaler Memorial Scholarship in care of the funeral home.
