Dodge City - Patricia A Garrett, Patty went to be with the Lord on April 1st 2017. She was born April 24th 1960 in Raton, New Mexico the daughter of Raynaldo and Bertha (Duran) Barela. Patty lived in Sopris, Colorado before her family moved to Trinidad Colorado.
Patty graduated from Trinidad High School in 1978 and was class valedictorian. She continued her education at Otero Junior College and was pursuing a degree in medicine. On June 5th 1982 she married Jim Garrett. Patty gave birth to Matthew in November of 1984 and Mark in June of 1987. She home schooled her boys for several years. After focusing on her family, Patty reentered the workforce and worked with some special people. The most satisfying job she had was being a paraprofessional at Linn elementary school. Patty was at Linn for over 12 years. She also enjoyed spoiling her three grandchildren, Addy, Avery, and James.
Patty was active in ministry at the First Southern Baptist Church of Dodge City. She was involved in the AWANA clubs focusing on the Sparks, Kindergarten thru 2nd grade. She considered AWANA one of the most important ministries because of the focus of sharing the Gospel of Jesus Christ with children. She also lead women's Bible studies.
Patty is survived by her husband, Jim of Dodge City; son, Matthew and daughter-in-law Melanie, grandchildren Addy, Avery, and James all of Dodge City, son Mark and daughter-in-law Sydney of Friendswood Texas; her brother, Cel Santisteven, and wife Sharon of Rocky Ford, Colorado, and three sisters, Nancy Johnson of Las Animas, Colorado, Berta Fresquez and husband Greg of Trinidad, Colorado and Ingrid Pepperman of Atlanta, Georgia.
Funeral service will be held at the First Southern Baptist Church, Dodge City on Wednesday April 5, 2017 at 10:30 AM with pastors, Tyler Ball and Mahlon Stucky presiding. Burial will follow at Maple Grove Cemetery in Dodge City. Visitation will be at Swaim Funeral Home on Tuesday April 4, 2017 from Noon to 8:00 PM.
