Pearl LaVon Smith,72, died Friday, November 20, 2009 in Dodge City. She was born on May 5, 1937 in Gray County. She was born the daughter of George T. and Ella (Koehn) Smith. She attended school in Cimarron. On March 18, 1957 she married Ervie "Erv" Smith at Raton, New Mexico.
Pearl was a wonderful, kind and gentle mother and grandmother and was greatly loved by her family and she enjoyed cooking. She loved to sing and minister in church, and was a giver and never wanted to be recognized. Giving Christmas presents to her family was a special time for her.
Mrs. Smith is survived by her husband, Ervie "Erv" Smith of Wright; three daughters, Dollie Janelle Fisher and husband Victor of Cimarron, Janet Williams and husband Glen of Garden City, Jolene Lundeen and husband Jay of Fowler; three sons, Greg Smith of Wright, Leland Smith and wife Janet of Wright, Robert Smith and wife Linda of Dodge City; three sisters, Leona Smith of Cimarrron, Sara Rose Smith of Garden City, Grace Smith of Minneola; one brother, Johnny Smith of Ulysses; 26 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother, and three sisters.
Funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM on Tuesday, November 24, 2009 at the Dodge City Church of the Nazarene with Pastor Michael Burns presiding. Burial will follow at Cimarron Cemetery in Cimarron. Public visitation will be on Monday, November 23, 2009 from 1:00 - 8:00 PM at Swaim Funeral Home.
