Obituary

Cimarron - Peggy Toland, 82, died March 11, 2024 at Baldwin Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center in Baldwin, Kansas. She was born on January 1, 1942, in Garden City, the daughter of Clyde C. and Esther Vida (Goodale) Smith.

Peggy spent her childhood in Kalvesta where she attended school.  She was a graduate of Ingalls High School.  Peggy worked for Cimarron Insurance Company, Cimarron Grocery, Walmart, and Dillons before retiring. She had moved to Lawrence to be closer to her sons.  Peggy had a soft spot in her heart for animals, often caring for many strays in the neighborhood.

She liked to make jokes and see other people laugh. She had a great sense of humor. Her stubbornness would sometimes match this ability to be funny. A lot of people loved Peggy and she will certainly be missed dearly.  She left us with our own fond memories, some funny videos, and a couple cats.

She is survived by two sons, Lance Toland and wife Wendi of Lawrence and Thomas Toland of Lawrence; grandchildren, Cooper Toland, Chase Toland, and Clair Toland; Nancy Davis of Lawrence; and brother, John Smith and wife Mary of Cimarron.  Peggy is preceded in death by her parents and her sisters, Mary Hoskinson and Hellen Shriver and brother, Tom Smith.

Graveside service will be held at Cimarron Cemetery on Monday, March 18, 2024 at 11:00 AM with.  Memorials are suggested to the ASPCA – PO Box 96929 – Washington D.C. 20077-7127.
