Obituary

Philip "Phil" J. Lutz, Jr., 58, died Saturday, June 6, 2009 at Northern Michigan Regional Hospital, Petoskey, Michigan. He was born on November 13, 1950 at Dodge City, the son of Philip J. and Barbara (Downey) Lutz.

Mr. Lutz attended St. Andrews School in Wright, and graduated in 1969 from St. Mary of the Plains High School, Dodge City. On August 26, 1977 he married Jolene Bennette at Anniston, Alabama, while stationed in the military. He served in the U.S. Army from 1970 until 1981. He was a Vietnam veteran. He was employed as a tool and die maker for Tower Automotive, a subsidiary of the General Motors Plant, Traverse City, Michigan.

He was a member of St. Andrew Catholic Church and Knights of Columbus Council # 1862, both of Wright; National Rifle Association, North American Hunting Club, United Auto Workers, and the Fraternal Order of the Eagles.

Survivors include two daughters, Charity Lutz and fiance Roger Vetter of Lake Havasu City, Arizona; Hope Fry and husband Steve of Charlevoix, Michigan; one son, Walter (Jake) Lutz, Camp Pendleton, San Diego, California; his mother, Barbara Lutz of Wright, one brother, Steve Joe Lutz and wife Kathleen of Wright, four sisters,Mary Catherine (Cathy) Harper of Defiance, Ohio; Ruth Morton and husband Allen of Wright, Rose Chaaban of Lawrence, Joyce Koehn and husband Lyle of Wichita, six grandchildren, Dakota Schwartz,Thomas Schwartz, and Anabelle Schwartz all of Michigan; Justis Capron-Fry, Wyatt Fry, and Jackson Fry all of Charlevoix, Michigan. Also surviving are sixteen nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father Philip J. Lutz.

Vigil service will be held at St. Andrew Catholic Church in Wright, on Sunday, June 14, 2009 at 7:00 PM. The Funeral Mass will be Monday June 15, at 10:00 AM at the church with Rev. Robert A .Schremmer presiding. Inurnment will follow at St. Andrew Cemetery in Wright, with military rites provided by Howard Gotschall Post # 1714, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Dodge City. There will be no visitation as cremation has taken place. Memorials can be made to St. Andrews Parish or Knights of Columbus, Council # 1862, Wright, Kansas, in care of Swaim Funeral Home, 1901 6th Avenue, Dodge City, Kansas. 67801.
