Obituary

Sublette - Philip E. Wallace, 84, died November 19, 2014 at the Satanta District Hospital. He was born on October 28, 1930 on the family farm in rural Haskell County, the son of Otto and Gladys H. (Thomas) Wallace.

Philip was a lifetime resident of Haskell County, except for his time in the military. He graduated from Sublette High School in 1949 and then attended Junior College in Dell City, Oklahoma for one year. In July of 1952, Philip enlisted in the United States Air Force, retiring in September of 1972 after serving for 20 years. On April 16, 1955, he married Betty Gill in Las Cruses, New Mexico. She survives.

During his time in the service, Philip and Betty lived in several locations, including, El Paso, Texas, Ardmore, Oklahoma, Smyrna, Tennessee, Hampton, Virginia, Topeka, Las Vegas, Nevada, and San Bernardino, California. After retiring from the Air Force, they moved to Oklahoma City where Philip worked at Tinker Air Force Base. In 1974, they returned to Sublette and he went to work for Geis Irrigation, retiring in 1992. Philip was not a man to sit idle and his next job was for the Haskell County Road Department and then for Haskell County Landfill, retiring once again in October of 2013 at the age of 83.

Philip enjoyed many activities including fishing and boating at Table Rock Lake, attending local sporting events, racing Thunder Cars, reading, spending time with friends at the Senior Center, and driving his gator.

He was a member of the Christian Church and the American Legion both of Sublette.

In addition to his wife Betty Wallace of Sublette, Philip is survived by two daughters, Ruby Aho and husband Gerald of Lee City, Texas and Gwendolyn Garcia and husband Pete of Lyons, one brother, Jack Wallace of Kansas City, Missouri; one sister, Mary Lou Spanier of Sublette; five grandchildren; four great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, one sister, Betty Chaffin; and one grandson, David Philip Aho.

Funeral service will be held at Sublette Christian Church on Monday, November 24, 2014 at 10:30 AM with Pastor David Erwin presiding. Burial will follow at Banner Cemetery in rural Haskell County. Visitation will be at Swaim Funeral Chapel, Sublette on Sunday, November 23, 2014 from noon-6:00 PM. Memorials are suggested to the Sublette American Legion or American Cancer Society in care of the funeral home.
