Montezuma - Phoebe was born on March 16, 1920 at Alton, to Ben and Lena Terrell and died on May 26, 2012 at the age of 92.
Phoebe was fond of sports, especially basketball in which she played on her high scool basketball team. she loved to spend time outside working in her beautiful flower gardens. She was active as a Girl Scouts leader and loved watching all her grandchildren in their numerous activities. Phoebe enjoyed taking her dog Fluffy to area nursing homes to cheer residents, was a Nanny for several families, worked for F.W. Woolworth, Alco, Gibsons, and Wal-Mart and loved to send greeting cards to encourage friends and family.
She married Harold Grady on May 30, 1937 in Alton. They had three children: Gerald Lee, Janice and Carol. Harold preceded her in death on July 22, 1972. She married Boston Frank on January 7, 1979. He preceded her in death on March 1, 1991.
She was a member of Cathedral of Our Lady of Guadalupe and the Altar Society, Senior Friends, Ladies of the V.F. W. and Southwest Singles all of Dodge City.
Survivors include two daughters, Carol L. Hessman of Dodge City and Janice Bogner and husband David of Wright; five step-children; grandchildren: Jerry Grady (Carolyn), Larry Grady (Kenda), RoseAnn Grady, Mindy Morrow (Chance), Michael A. Hessman (Terri), Bryan Bogner, Harold Bogner, Mark Bogner (Amber), Cheryl Copeland (Brett). 20 great grandchildren and eight great great grandchildren; a sister Rosalee Nech and husband Bud; a special friend Richard P. Hessman and many nieces and nephews.
Phoebe was also preceded in death by her parents, son Gerald Lee Grady on September 25, 2005, seven brothers and one sister.
Phoebe lived her life with "old- fashioned" morals and values that will be past on to many generations. She set an incredible example of how to live life to the fullest and will be dearly missed. The family would like to extend a very special thank you to Michelle Skidmore, Merle Kauffman and ALL the amazing and incredible staff members of Bethel Home in Montezuma for their compassionate and loving care for Phoebe.
Funeral service will be held 2:00 P.M. at Sacred Heart Cathedral in Dodge City on Friday, June 1, 2012 with Rev. Ted Skalsky presiding. Burial will follow at Maple Grove Cemetery in Dodge City. Visitation will be at Swaim Funeral Home on Thursday May 31, 2012 from Noon to 8:00 P.M. with a Rosary at 7:00 P.M. on Thursday at the funeral home.
