Obituary

Wichita - Phyllis Elaine Hasty, 88, died December 8, 2020 at the Catholic Care Center in Wichita. She was born on December 25, 1931 at St. Anthony Hospital Dodge City, Kansas during a blizzard, the only child of Willie Earl and Geneva (Wright) Thompson.  She grew up on various farms around Dodge City, attended primary grades in the one room Pleasant Hill Country School, then finished at Dodge City Senior High School, graduating in 1949.

She married Robert Hasty on July 29, 1951, he preceded her in death on April 8, 2020. Phyllis was introduced to Robert, by his sister Betty. The couple married in Dodge City then moved to Fort Worth where Robert was stationed in the Air Force.  They returned to Dodge City in 1952. She worked at Fidelity State Bank for over thirty years, as a teller and then as a loan officer, before retiring.

She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Dodge City, United Methodist Women, Dodge City Women's Chamber and Happy Hour Extension Unit. She completed the Disciple Bible Study series. She and Robert moved to Valley Center in September 2009 and there they became affiliate members of First United Methodist Church of Valley Center. In February 2019 she moved to Assisted Living and then in March 2020 she moved to Long Term Care both in the Catholic Care Center in Bel Aire, KS.

Phyllis also enjoyed attending grandchildren's sporting events and performances, watching KU Basketball and traveling. She and Robert shared all these activities and numerous family gatherings during their 68 years of marriage.

She is survived by her daughter Diana Rhiley and husband Bill of Wellington; two sons Donald Hasty and wife Phyllis of Dodge City; Douglas Hasty and wife Sara of Sabetha; sisters-in-law, Betty Hoff of Fredonia and Emma Faye Wilson of Montrose, CO. She is also survived by eight grandchildren Bill, David, Justin, Michael, Jordan, Rebekah, Emily, Melissa; and fourteen great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband and parents.

A private family service will be held at First United Methodist Church of Dodge City, and live streamed on the church's YouTube Channel https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCmw0UMw_2EPZWgn5wDHTesQ on Monday December 14, 2020 at 1:00 PM with Rev. Jerre Nolte presiding.  Burial will follow at Maple Grove Cemetery in Dodge City.  Visitation will be at Swaim Funeral Chapel on Sunday, December 13, 2020 from 12:00PM to 6:00 PM.  Memorials are suggested to First United Methodist Church of Dodge City or First United Methodist Church of Valley Center in care of the funeral home.
