Obituary

Dodge City - Phyllis V. Weiss, 90, died July 14, 2017 at Brookdale Senior Living Center in Dodge City.  She was born on May 5, 1927 at her parent's farm north of Dodge City, the daughter of George P. and Alta (Morris) Maskus.

Phyllis attended Pretty Prairie Grade School in Hodgeman County and graduated from Dodge City Senior High School.  She was baptized and confirmed at St. Michael's Lutheran Church in Hodgeman County.

During World War II, Phyllis worked as a telephone switchboard operator in Dodge City.  She and Everett Weiss were married on December 1, 1946 at St. Michael's Lutheran Church.  To this union of 70 plus years were born two sons, Alan and Gregory.  Phyllis was a farmwife and homemaker and enjoyed sewing and her family and friends.  She was a longtime member of Zion Lutheran Church, where she was active in the Ladies Aid Society and taught Sunday School and Vacation Bible School for over 45 years.

Survivors include her husband, Everett Weiss of Dodge City; sons, Alan Weiss (Janice) of Viola and Gregory Weiss of Manitou Springs, Colorado; brothers, Bob Maskus (Nancy) of Jetmore, Jim Maskus (Pat) of Edmond, Oklahoma, and Richard Maskus (Linda) of Bolivar, Missouri; sister, Helen Wetzel and husband Edgar of Great Bend; sister-in-law, Irene Maskus of Jetmore; and many nieces and nephews.  She is preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Jack Maskus and wife Dorothy, Bill Maskus, and Paul Maskus; sisters, Jean Bushell and husband Wayne and Joyce Koehn.

Funeral service will be held at Zion Lutheran Church, 13307 Jewell Road, Offerle on Wednesday July 19, 2017 at 10:00 AM with Rev. Stanley Palmer presiding.  Burial will follow at Zion Lutheran Cemetery.  Visitation will be at Swaim Funeral Chapel, Dodge City on Tuesday July 18, 2017 from noon to 8:00 PM.  At the family's request, in lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to Zion Lutheran Church in care of the funeral home.  Thoughts and memories may be shared in the online guest book at www.swaimfuneralhome.com .
