IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Ramon
Varela-Monje
February 10, 1935 – August 6, 2020
Ramón Varela-Monje, 85, died Thursday, August 6, 2020 at home, surrounded by his loved ones. Ramón was born in La Capilla Municipio de Cusihuiriachi, Chihuahua on Sunday, February 10, 1935.
Though Ramón worked most of his adulthood operating a crusher in a steel mine, his passion lied in the challenge of breaking in wild mustangs and hunting deer. Ramón was a cowboy at heart and would not go anywhere without his hat and boots.
Ramón married Josefa Ramírez in 1961. The pair remained together since then and Josefa stood by his side as he took his final breaths. A true love story. Ramón's family referred to him as Varelita and Mi 'Apa as terms of endearment.
Varelita enjoyed playing lotería and dominoes with his daughters, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Mi 'Apa's laughter, smile and that special twinkle in his eyes will be missed, without a doubt, as well as fondly remembered.
Ramón is survived by his wife, Josefa, eight daughters, Maria de Jesus, Josefina, Esperanza, Elva, Rosalia, Blanca, Petra and Juana, 30 grandchildren and 32 great-grandchildren.
Funeral Mass will be held at Cathedral of Our Lady of Guadalupe, Dodge City on Tuesday, August 11, 2020 at 10:00 AM with Rev. Wesley Schawe presiding. Burial will follow at Maple Grove Cemetery in Dodge City. Visitation will be at Swaim Funeral Chapel, Dodge City on Monday, August 10, 2020 from noon to 7:00 PM. Vigil Service will follow visitation, beginning at 7:00 PM at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to Ramon Varela-Monje Memorial Fund in care of the funeral home. Thoughts and memories may be shared in the online guest book at www.swaimfuneralhome.com.
