Beaver - Raul Torres, 52, died May 8, 2014 at Southwest Medical Center in Liberal. He was born on September 7, 1961 in Uvalde, Texas, the son of Juan Sanchez and Fransica (DeLeon) Torres.
Raul moved to Copeland as a child and attended Copeland schools. He worked for various farmers and elevators in Southwest Kansas. In 1984, Raul married Johanna Escobar. She survives. Raul enjoyed fishing, gardening, and playing the guitar.
Survivors include his wife, Joanna Torres of Beaver, Oklahoma; one son, Bobby Torres of Beaver, Oklahoma; three daughters, Carmela Cruz of Nebraska, Pricsilla Rodriguez of Mexico; and Tiffany Torres of Beaver, Oklahoma; six sisters, Lupe Lara of Copeland, Mary Barnhart of Dodge City, Isabell Martinez, Connie Torres, and Rosa Montemayor all of Sublette, and Asencion Ornelas of Garden City; three brothers, Johnny Torres of Fowler, Frank Torres of Kismet, and Joe Torres of Garden City; and 13 grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Manuel Torres, Sr.
Graveside service will be held at the Plains Cemetery in Plains on Tuesday, May 13, 2014 at 10:30 A.M. Visitation will be at Swaim Funeral Chapel of Sublette on Monday, May 12, 2014 from Noon to 8:00 P.M.. Memorials are suggested to Raul Torres Memorial Fund in care of the funeral home.
