Obituary

CIMARRON - Ray Vernon Toothaker, 76, died December 14, 2011 at his home in Cimarron. He was born on May 6, 1935 at Manter, the son of John Rex and Wilma Blenne (Bowker) Toothaker, Sr.

He married Barbara Kay Houk on October 26, 1957. Ray attended school in Cullison and graduated from Cimarron High School in May of 1953. He served in the U.S. Army from 1954 to 1956. Ray was an avid hunter, fisherman, and enjoyed the Colorado Rocky Mountains. He loved playing dominoes, games, and cards with his family and would always look forward to them visiting. Ray worked in construction for many years living in several places. He later worked for the Gray County Road Department from 1984 to 1997. He looked forward to spending time in the mountains and camping upon his retirement.

Ray was of the Baptist faith.

Ray is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Barbara Kay Toothaker of Cimarron, his four children, Sandra Woods and husband Roger of Kansas City, Missouri, Monica Correll and husband Rockee of Plains, Tammy Donavan and husband Todd of Ft. Collins, Colorado, and William "Bill" Toothaker and wife Jody of Dodge City; 10 grandchildren, Sara, Luke, Andrew, Zachary, Kristen, Matthew, Emma, Victoria, Jordan, and Alexis; six great grandchildren, Leigh, William, Ayden, Hunter, Lillian, and Payton "Abi"; two brothers, Eugene Toothaker and wife Elsie of Cimarron and Robert Toothaker and wife Bonnie of Canyon, Texas; brothers and sisters in-law, Gary and Sandie Houk of Maple Hill, Sharon and Larry Flentie of Ft. Collins, Colorado, Linda and Mark Dimmick of Wichita, and Debra Burman of Dodge City; and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, and two brothers, John Rex Toothaker, Jr. and Dean Toothaker.

Graveside service will be held at the Cimarron Cemetery on Saturday, December 17, 2011 at 11:00 AM with Rev. Richard Deimund presiding. Military rites will be conducted by Howard Gotschall Post # 1714, V.F.W. Visitation will be at Swaim Funeral Chapel, Cimarron on Friday, December 16, 2011 from noon to 8:00 PM. Memorials are suggested to the First Baptist Church or Cancer Center of Dodge City both in care of the funeral home.
