RAYMOND J. GLESSING
FT. DODGE - Raymond J. Glessing, 91, died Saturday, May 22, 2010 at Western Plains Medical Complex, Dodge City. He was born on July 25, 1918 at Cumberland, Wisconsin the son of Henry and Anna (Boche) Glessing.
Raymond served in the US Army Air Corp during WWII serving in the European Theater. He married Glenna Olena Davis on January 9, 1943 at Electra, Texas. She preceded him in death on September 29, 1998. Raymond and Glenna lived in Texas and Wisconsin prior to moving to Great Bend in 1964. He was a construction electrician and volunteer fireman in Electra, Texas. After moving to Great Bend he was an oil field electrician. Raymond served as a deacon for many years at First Southern Baptist Church in Great Bend. He and his wife were the first house parents of the Great Bend Girls Home.
He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Cimarron.
Raymond is survived by three daughters, Elizabeth Flynt of Dodge City, Mary Jane Chlumsky of Grants, New Mexico, and Mae Glessing of Cheney; a brother, Lyle Glessing of Fargo, North Dakota; three grandchildren and four great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, five brothers, and seven sisters.
Funeral service will be held at Swaim Funeral Home on Saturday, June 5, 2010 at 10:30 AM with Rev. Richard Deimund and Rev. Doyle Smith presiding. Burial will follow at Maple Grove Cemetery in Dodge City with Military Rites by Howard Gotschall Post #1714, V.F.W. Visitation will be at Swaim Funeral Home on Friday, June 4, 2010 from Noon to 8:00 PM. Memorials are suggested to the Raymond Glessing Memorial Fund in care of the funeral home.
