Obituary

Sonny Stinemetz passed away on March 26, 2026, after a short time in hospice care. He had cancer and passed peacefully in his sleep at home.

Cecelia cared for him with incredible love and devotion all the way to the very end—something our family will always be deeply grateful for.

Sonny and Cece spent the last 25 years living in Kinsley, Kansas, building a life together. He was the owner of Daylight Donut Shop and later worked as an Equipment Operator for Edwards County. During that time, they built lasting friendships within their community.

One of the most recent blessings in Sonny’s life came on December 26, 2025, when his son-in-law, Pastor Raul Silva, had the honor of baptizing him in his home, surrounded by family. Through many meaningful conversations, Sonny found a deep peace and confidence in knowing he was saved by grace and would spend eternity in heaven with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

Sonny was deeply loved and will be greatly missed by so many. He leaves behind his wife, Cecelia; his children: Anna & Raul Silva, Kristin & Shannon Atkins, and Brock Stinemetz; his grandchildren: Jordan, AJ, Raul Jr. & Samantha, Mattie & Rayce, Issac & Saskia, Aspen & Jake, Jack & Shelby, Hayden, Raegan & Josh, and Allie; and his great-grandchildren: Jaxsyn, Derrick, Daxly, and John Luke. He loved his family dearly and was so very proud of each of them.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Helen Michel and Ray Stinemetz Jr., and his sister, Sharon Kuhn.

The family would like to thank everyone for the love, prayers, and support during this time. It means more than we can ever express.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, April 4, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at New Day Church, 2703 North Taylor Plaza, Garden City, Kansas, with Pastor Raul Silva officiating. There will be no visitation as cremation has taken place. Thoughts and memories may be shared in the online guestbook at www.swaimfuneralhome.com.
