Rex E. Stanley, 86, passed away Tuesday, December 8, 2009 at his home in Dodge City with his wfe, Frances, at his side. He was born on January 13, 1923 in Dighton, the son of John Neal and Esther (Hyames) Stanley.
In June of 1943, Rex joined the military and served as Sergeant in World War II as a radio operator and waist gunner. He flew many missions over Europe and Germany and was awarded several medals for his service to his country. After leaving the service, he married Frances Martin on June 8, 1947. Soon after, they moved to the farm in Howell. For many years, Rex farmed with his brother, Jack. Later on, Rex started his own business, Stanley Feed Yards which is still being operated by his sons, Dennis and Ronnie. Until a few years ago, he still loved being on a tractor. For over 25 years, he was passionate about golf, enjoying the game with his wonderful friends. He was especially proud that during his golfing years, he shot five holes in one.
He was a member of First Christian Church, Dodge City.
Rex is survived by his wife, Frances Stanley of Dodge City; two sons, Dennis Stanley and wife Carol and Ronnie Stanley and wife Sandra both of Dodge City; four daughters, Diana Moser of Albuquerque, New Mexico; Lynda Saling of Wilsonville, Oregon, Lana Hodes of Lenexa, and Rita Schlosser and husband Charlie of Albuquerque, New Mexico; two brothers, Max Stanley and wife Ellen May and Dwight Stanley and wife Helen both of Dighton; and one sister in law, Pat Stanley of Dodge City. He is also survived by 19 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a sister, Joyce James and a brother, Jack Stanley.
Funeral service will be held at the First Christian Church of Dodge City on Friday, December 11, 2009 at 10:30 AM with Mr. Phil Scott presiding. Burial will follow at Maple Grove Cemetery in Dodge City with military rites by Howard Gotschall Post # 1714 V.F.W. Visitation will be at Swaim Funeral Home, Dodge City, on Thursday, December 10, 2009 from 1:00 PM to 8:00 PM. Memorials can be made to the First Christian Church in care of the funeral home.
