Dodge City - Richard W. Dowell, 85, died January 18, 2021 at Western Plains Medical Complex in Dodge City.  He was born on August 20, 1935 at Cimarron the son of Carl and Mabel Hanna (Smith) Dowell.

Mr. Dowell proudly served his country in the U.S. Army for many years before retiring from the military. He later worked as a mechanic for a bridge company maintaining their equipment. He loved to go to the mountains, go trout fishing and ride motorcycles in his spare time.

He is survived by two daughters Vickie Morris of Minor Hill, Tennessee; Debbie Ann Arzay of North Carolina and one son Michael Dowell of Augusta, Georgia. He is also survived by three grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Graveside service with full military rites by KSARNG Military Honors program as well as the 8 ^th District Honor Guard of the American Legion will be held at Kansas Veterans' Cemetery on Thursday January 28, 2021 at 2:00 PM with Mr. Jeff  Hiers presiding.  There will be no visitation as cremation has taken place.  Memorials are suggested to Donor's choice in care of the funeral home.  Thoughts and memories may be shared in the online guest book at www.swaimfuneralhome.com.
