Montezuma - Richard Paul Hessman, 70, died June 5, 2012 at Harry Hynes Hospice, Wichita. He was born on December 31, 1941 in Dodge City, the son of Paul Joseph and Lillie Fern (Wasson) Hessman.
Richard grew up in Dodge City and graduated from Dodge City High School in 1959. He served in the United States Army. Richard worked as the manager of the feedmill at Rex Stanley Feedyard in Dodge City. He then drove a truck for Kansas Feeds until his retirement in 2004. On March 1, 2008, he married Janet Shira Koehn in Montezuma. Richard enjoyed following his grandchildren's activities. He was an avid sports fan and liked riding his motorcycle and taking care of his yard.
He was a member of the First Christian Church of Dodge City and attended the Copeland Christian Church.
Richard is survived by his wife, Janet Hessman, Montezuma; son, Mike Hessman and wife Terri, Wichita; daughter, Mindy Morrow and husband Chance, Dodge City; two step-daughters, Shannon Coleman and husband Dale, Dodge City and Savannah Koehn, Montezuma; two step-sons, Chad Koehn and wife Susan, Salina, and Matthew Koehn, Montezuma; brother, Harold Hessman, Bella Vista, Arkansas; 15 grandchildren, Cale, Cambre, Carson, Cabrielle, and Carle Morrow; Benjamin, Olivia, and Cassidy Hessman; Morgan Belt; Pallie, Landon, Jess, and Ty Koehn; Charlie and Alex Coleman. He is preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Emma Irene Rogers, and a special friend, Phoebe Frank.
Funeral service will be held at Copeland Christian Church on Saturday, June 9, 2012 at 10:00 AM with Pastor Bruce Titus presiding. Burial will follow at Morningside Cemetery in Montezuma. Friends may sign the book from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM on Friday, June 8, 2012 at Swaim Funeral Home in Dodge City. The casket will remain closed.
