Obituary

Dodge City - Richard Olivarez, Sr., 75, died September 17, 2018 at Dodge City.  He was born on May 27, 1943 at Dodge City, the son of Antonio Olivarez Sr. and Tomasa (Espinosa) Olivarez.

Richard was a lifetime resident of Dodge City. On April 24, 1965 he married Martha Rodriguez at Dodge City. He worked at Hy-Plains/National Beef for 34 years where he was the supervisor of the Hide House, a meat cutter and later was the knife sharpener until he retired. Richard loved his family and spending time with them. He was an avid golfer, loved watching sports, and hunting pheasants and doves.

He was a member of the Cathedral of Our Lady of Guadalupe of Dodge City, the Mexican/American Golf Association and was a member of Miraiah Hills Golf Club for many years.

Richard is survived by his wife, Martha Olivarez of Dodge City; three children, Frank Olivarez, Rachel Ann Olivarez, and Richard Olivarez, Jr all of Dodge City; five grandchildren, Samuel, James, Gregory, Kyla, and Mariah Olivarez; three great grandchildren, Shianne, Jaiden, and Aiden; and five siblings, Jessie Falcon and husband Richard of Dodge City, Anita Olivarez of Dodge City, Angela McMichael and husband Robert of Waconia, Minnesota, Ralph Olivarez and wife Leeann of Dodge City, and Joseph Olivarez and wife Janelle of Dundee, Oregon.He was preceded in death by his parents, and two brothers, Fred and Tony.

Vigil service will be held at Cathedral of Our Lady of Guadalupe on Friday, September 21, 2018 at 7:00 PM. Funeral mass will be held at the Cathedral of Our Lady of Guadalupe on Saturday, September 22, 2018 at 9:30 AM with Rev. Aneesh Parappanattu presiding.  Burial will follow at Maple Grove Cemetery in Dodge City.  Visitation will be at Swaim Funeral Chapel on Friday September 21, 2018 from Noon to 5:00 PM.  Memorials are suggested to Cathedral of Our Lady of Guadalupe in care of the funeral home.  Thoughts and memories may be shared in the online guest book at www.swaimfuneralhome.com.
