Ricky Lynn Cecil, 53, died January 16, 2012 at his home in Dodge City. He was born on January 24, 1958 in Dodge City, the son of Gary Erwin and Carlene E. (Morgison) Cecil.
Ricky worked early on as a dishwasher at the family business the Lamplighter Club, for Cecil and Sons Excavation, was former owner of the Paddock Club in Minneola, was involved in training racehorses, worked as a foreman at Dodge City Sand Company, and was involved in others activities such as a driver education teacher, babysitter, sloppy house hubby, pool technician, master of arts, on call therapist, guitarist, dog whisperer, horticulturist, boxing trainer, toy collector, entertainer, rainmaker, I.O.U. holder, bartender, and piano teacher.
He was an Eagle scout, a member of Cecils and Son bowling and baseball teams, was regional president of the Beatles Fan Club of Southwest Kansas, the GI Joe collectors club, and an avid subscriber of the Bruce Lee philosophy.
Ricky is survived by his wife Geneva Lynn Cecil, Dodge City; one son, Joshua Hannon Cecil, Lawrence; one daughter, Emma Lee Cecil, Dodge City; three brothers, Frankie Cecil, Randy Cecil and wife Peggy, and Scottie Cecil and wife Debbie, all of Dodge City; one sister, Tammy Cecil-Huffman and husband Jerry, of Wichita. Ricky is also survived by four "adopted" daughters, Shelly Holt, Jenny Lerch and Little Jenny, Jeniffer Fitzgerald and grandchildren, and Sarah Stegman, all of Dodge City; two "adopted" big brothers, Kenny Tague and Willie Gibson, both of Dodge City as well as numerous additional family members. He was preceded in death by his parents, and one brother Terry Joe Cecil.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at the Lamplighter Club, Dodge City, on Thursday, January 19, 2012 at 10:00 A.M. Suggested attire is Hawaiian or Beatles t-shirts or anything casual. Private inurnment will be at a later time at Greencrest Cemetery in Dodge City. There will be no visitation as cremation has taken place. A potluck meal will be held immediately following the celebration so you are asked to bring a food item.
