Obituary

Dodge City - Robert D. Coy, 77, died April 25, 2013 at Trinity Manor Nursing Home in Dodge City. He was born at home on September 14, 1935 in Mullinville, the son of Archie and Lula (Loving) Coy.

Bob attended both grade school and high school in Mullinville. After graduation, he attended Kansas State University for one year. He then went to Fort Hays State University, graduating with a Bachelor of Science in Education and a Master's Degree in Educational Administration. On August 19, 1956, he married Rowena Mae Miller in Greensburg. She preceded him in death on July 23, 2004. Bob was an educator at Sunnyside Elementary School in Dodge City for 37 years. He was also an auctioneer, a salesman for Weece Furniture for 48 years, and he continued to volunteer at Sunnyside School. Bob also held a private pilot's license.

He was a member of the Wilroads Gardens Christian Church and the Son's of the American Legion Post #47.

Bob is survived by three sons, Cris Coy of St. Louis, Missouri, Eric Coy of Eldon, Missouri, and John Coy and wife Mary of Mission Viejo, California; one sister, Linda Springborg of Lampe, Missouri; one brother, Ken Coy of Phoenix, Arizona; and five grandchildren. In addition to his wife Rowena, Bob is preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral service will be held at Swaim Funeral Home in Dodge City on Tuesday, April 30, 2013 at 11:00 AM with Mr. Jeff Hiers presiding. Visitation will be at Swaim Funeral Home on Monday, April 29, 2013 from noon to 8:00 PM with the family receiving friends from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM. Private family inurnment will be at a later date. Memorials are suggested to Cancer Survivors of Dodge City or Hospice of the Prairie in care of the funeral home.
