Obituary

Montezuma - Robert Lee (Bob) Koehn, Jr. passed away peacefully and surrounded by his family on Tuesday, September 13 in Garden City, after battling cancer.

Although he held other titles throughout his life, Bob was most proud of "husband," "dad," "Gramps," (or as Rylee says, "Framps") and "farmer." He was born in Sublette on July 5, 1956 to Robert and Betty Koehn, and raised on their farm, where he developed his tremendous work ethic and would farm all his life. He graduated from Montezuma High School in 1974 and married Kathy Moore in 1978 in Dodge City. Bob enjoyed all types of racing including go-karts, dirt track, and NASCAR. He loved building things, model trains, and traveling with good friends. He could fix anything, and was known throughout the community for his willingness to lend a hand anywhere he was needed. He was always humble and often quiet, but ready with an ornery joke at any time.

Family was everything to Bob. In 2011, he received a new kidney from Lisa on his birthday, and with it a new sense of life and purpose. This strengthened an already deep bond between father and daughter, which later included his beloved granddaughter, Rylee, who was the light of his life. He was proud to have raised his son, Josh, to be a third-generation farmer on the family farm. They shared a deep respect for the land and the farming life. Before he died, Bob reminded his family of the importance of kindness, forgiveness, faith in God, and love.

Bob is survived by his wife, Kathy, children Josh (Katie) Koehn and Lisa (Daniel) Berg, and granddaughter Rylee Berg, all of Montezuma; father Robert Lee Koehn, Sr., of Montezuma; brother Cecil (Karen) Koehn of Fort Collins, Colorado, sisters Diane (Will) Koehn of Flagstaff, Arizona, and Debby (Richard) Koehn of Montezuma, and numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives. He was preceded in death by his mother, Betty Mae (Koehn) Koehn and grandparents.
