Dodge City - Robert A. Rodriguez, 76, died July 26, 2021 at Western Plains Medical Complex in Dodge City. He was born on February 15, 1945 in Dodge City, the son of Antonio Rodriguez and Pola Rodriguez.
Robert spent his childhood in Dodge City, graduating from Dodge City High School. Following graduation, Robert moved to California to work. He returned to Dodge City and worked for HyPlains Dressed Beef. On September 10, 1982, he married Gloria Mendoza in Dodge City. They moved to Denver and Robert worked in the sports arena. After 21 years in Denver, they returned to Dodge City to retire and be closer to family and he went to work at the Dodge City Public Library as a custodian. It was important to Gloria and Robert to be married in the church so the two were united on May 11, 2011 at the Cathedral of Our Lady of Guadalupe in Dodge City. Robert was an avid Kansas City Chiefs fan and also enjoyed watching the KC Royals. He loved to spend time with his family, especially the great grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife Gloria of Dodge City; four children, Paula Fernandez and husband Hugo of Wichita, Laura Favela and husband Lupe of Aurora, Illinois, Anthony Rodriguez of Dodge City, and Sharon Turgeon and husband Casey of Gilbert, Arizona; three step-children, Alice Perez and husband Tom of Dodge City, John M. Lozano of Dodge City, and Martin Lozano of El Dorado; two sisters, Micky Judd and husband Lonnie of Riverside, California and Lety Rodriguez and husband Gilbert of Palm Springs, California; one brother, Manuel Rodriguez of Riverside, California; his buddy and brother-in-law, Ernie Mendoza of Hutchinson; 15 grandchildren; nine step-grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; 18 step great grandchildren; and four step great-great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents and two step granddaughters, Tiffany and Helen Perez.
Visitation will be held at Swaim Funeral Chapel, Dodge City on Monday, August 2, 2021 from 12:00 to 5:00 PM. Vigil service will be at the Cathedral of Our Lady of Guadalupe in Dodge City on Monday, August 2, 2021 at 7:00 PM. Funeral Mass will be held at the Cathedral of Our Lady of Guadalupe on Tuesday, August 3, 2021 at 10:00 AM with Rev. Rudin Din presiding. Cremation will follow the mass and a private family burial will take place at a later date. Memorials are suggested to the Dodge City Public Library in care of the funeral home.
