Dodge City - Roger Eugene Holuska, 88, died October 16, 2023 at Presbyterian Manor of the Plains, Dodge City. He was born on October 3, 1935 at Wichita, the son of Joseph Franklin and Minnie Marie (Pruett) Holuska.
Roger worked on the family farm near Tribune where he met and married Gracene Eleanor Bailey on May 28, 1955 in Syracuse and moved to Dodge City. He began working for Everette Steele as a farm hand and later worked for Tom Lowery as a service station attendant. Roger's passion was carpentry and he began his career as a finish carpenter for Don Stein at Western Construction, a career spanning over 40 years. He also worked as pit steward for various racing promoters in the state of Kansas.
He took pride in teaching his family skills such as camping, fishing, home improvement, race cars, and various other things. And stories, he loved sharing stories.
Roger is survived by his children, Daniel Holuska of Topeka, Melanie Knight and husband Corky of Dodge City, and Jeralyn Myers and husband Jeff of Dodge City; grandchildren, Tajia Knight and Joe Cutright, Dustin Knight, Joel Jellison and Haley, Amanda LaBarge and Joe, Jr. and Tara Myers; great grandchildren, Aubree Sprott and Brandon, Conner Myers, Jaden and Jace LaBarge, Oliver Jellison and Emmalyn Knight; brother-in-laws, Lyle Bailey and Fred Finkenbinder. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Gracene Holuska; brothers, Charles and Joseph Holuska Jr; and sisters, Eloise Holuska, Bernadean Sue Dean, and Delois Rice and sister-in-law, Beverly Finkenbinder.
Funeral service will be held at Swaim Funeral Chapel on Saturday October 21, 2023 at 10:00 AM with Rev. Jerre Nolte presiding. Burial will follow at Maple Grove Cemetery in Dodge City. Visitation will be at Swaim Funeral Chapel on Friday October 20, 2023 from Noon to 8:00 PM with the family receiving friends from 5:00 to 7:00 PM.
