Ronald "Ron" Harms, 80, passed away on February 25, 2026, in Lee's Summit, Missouri. He was born on April 27, 1945 in Dodge City, to Ervin and Martha "Corinne" (Schoen) Harms.
Ron grew up on a farm north of Dodge City and graduated from Dodge City High School in 1963. He then attended Dodge City Community College and Ft. Hays State University earning his Bachelor Degree. Ron served in the US Army during the Vietnam War where he received the bronze star and purple heart medals. He was a farmer and cattleman on the family farm north of Dodge City where he enjoyed raising cattle and raising crops.
He married Marcia Durler on October 21, 1972 at St. Andrews Catholic Church in Wright. Ron enjoyed spending time with family especially his grandson, Hudson and attending family reunions every chance he got; as he loved any opportunity to spend time with his aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins! He was an avid sports fan and never missed a game his sons were playing. Ron was a major supporter of DCCC basketball where he had season tickets for 40 years and also a Kansas City Royals, Kansas City Chiefs, and KU fan.
Ron was a member of Holy Cross Lutheran Church of Dodge City.
Ronald is survived by his wife, Marcia Harms of Lee's Summit, Missouri and sons, Ross Harms and Samantha of Lee's Summit, Missouri, and Brad Harms of Blue Springs, Missouri; his grandson, Hudson Harms; and two sisters, Janice Tanner of Loveland, Colorado and Linda Pelton (Loren) of Colleyville, Texas. Ron was preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral service will be held at 10:30 AM on Friday, March 6, 2026 at Swaim Funeral Chapel in Dodge City. Visitation will be on Thursday, March 5, 2026 from 1:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Swaim Funeral Chapel. Burial will follow at the Kansas Veterans' Cemetery at Ft. Dodge with Military Honors by KSARNG Military Honors and SWKS Veterans' Honor Guard. Memorial donations can be made to Holy Cross Lutheran Church or Kansas Soldiers Home Activity Fund both in care of the funeral home.
