Dodge City - Ronald D. Meyer, 72, died March 29, 2013 at his home in Dodge City. He was born on November 14, 1940 in Council Grove, the son of Henry and Alice (Carson) Meyer.
Ron was raised in Strong City, graduating from Strong City High School. On September 10, 1960, he married Judy K. Davis in Strong City. She preceded him in death on March 10, 2001. He later married Lola Schmalz on May 27, 2006. She also preceded him in death on September 14, 2012. Ron moved to Dodge City in 1980 from Wichita. He worked at National Beef in Dodge City as an engineer. Ron was an avid KU Jayhawk fan and loved the outdoors. He enjoyed camping, fishing and Nascar. Ron loved his family and spending time with his grandchildren.
He was a member of the Cathedral of Our Lady of Guadalupe of Dodge City.
Ron is survived by three children, Kelly Starns and husband Dan of Goddard, Chris Meyer and wife Valisa of Dodge City and Jan Falcon and husband Thomas also of Dodge City; brothers, Robert Meyer and wife Jeanie of El Dorado, Mark Davis and wife Barb and Joe Davis and wife Terri, both of Strong City; sisters, Diane Sanders and husband Gerald, Jane Scott and husband Ron, Vicki Adcock and husband Marvin, Lexi Taliafero and husband Howard, and Gayle Ingalls and husband Gerald all of Strong City; step-daughter, Heather Estrada and husband Carlos of Dodge City; step-son, Christopher Schmalz and wife Teresa of Milwaukee, Wisconsin; mother-in-laws, Betty Clark of Strong City and Clara Rine of Wheeling, West Virginia; 20 grandchildren, Stevi, Courteney, Austin, Michael, Matthew, Morgan, Isaac, Anna, Eva, Mark, Beny, Zachary, Lexi, Avery, Zach, Logan, Kimberly, Taylor, Kevin, and Jenifer; and five great grandchildren, Talon, Hayden, Breckyn, Aubrey, and Elli Jo. He is also preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Raymond Meyer and Greg Davis; two sisters, Doris Watts and Roberta Allen; and one great granddaughter, Jocelyn Stevens.
Vigil service will be Tuesday, April 2, 2013 at 7:00 PM at Swaim Funeral Home in Dodge City. Funeral Mass will be held at the Cathedral of Our Lady of Guadalupe in Dodge City on Wednesday, April 3, 2013 at 10:00 AM with Rev. Ted Skalsky presiding. Burial will follow at Maple Grove Cemetery in Dodge City. Visitation will be at Swaim Funeral Home on Tuesday, April 2, 2013 from noon to 7:00 P.M.. Memorials are suggested to American Cancer Society or the Cathedral of Our Lady of Guadalupe in care of the funeral home.
