Obituary

DODGE CITY - Rosana Jean (Alexander) Denious Lowery, 82, loving mother, wife and grandmother, died Sunday, August 9, 2009 at her residence at Wichita. She was born on May 2, 1927 at Kansas City, Missouri, the daughter of Forrest Edwin and Gladys Lena (Williams) Alexander. She graduated from Central High School of Kansas City, Missouri in 1944 and then later graduated from Baker University in Baldwin City in 1949. On March 4, 1951 she married Jess C. Denious, Jr.. He preceded her in death on August 7, 1969. She later married Colonel Thomas R. Lowery on May 14, 1977 and he preceded her in death on January 19, 1993. Jean was a resident of Dodge City for 52 years and enjoyed golf, bridge and traveling.
Memberships include The First Presbyterian Church for 57 years, Chapter CF of P.E.O. where she was a past president, Dodge City Salvation Army Advisory Board, Zeta Tau Alpha Fraternity, and the Philamath and Bas Bleau Study Clubs and was the membership chairman of the Dodge City Community Concert Association for 32 years.
Survivors include a daughter Jennifer Lynn Denious of Wichita; two step daughters, Beryl BenBow Lowery - Born of Topeka and Ann L. Torrey and husband Rodney of Dodge City; a sister Dorothy Beeker Boon of Ludington, Michigan; a brother Don Edwin Alexander and wife Carol of San Marcos, California; a sister in law Martha "Betty" Muncy of Dodge City; two step grandsons, Christopher Born and wife Diane, and Benjamin Andrew Torrey; a step granddaughter Elizabeth Ann Torrey; one step great granddaughter Mollie Celeste Born; and many nieces and nephews. Cremation has taken place and friends may sign the register book at Swaim Funeral Home from 9 A.M. to 5 P.M. on Thursday, August 13, 2009. Graveside memorial service will be held on Friday, August 14, 2009 at 10:00 A.M. at Maple Grove Cemetery, Dodge City with the Rev. Tom Church and Rev. Regina Maas officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice of Wichita in care of Swaim Funeral Home, 1901 6th Ave. Dodge City, Kansas 67801.
