Obituary

Ross Gilbert Snyder, 87, died August 18, 2020 at his home in Fort Dodge.  He was born on March 16, 1933 on the family farm south of Dodge City, the son of Fredrick Luther and Leah Darlene (Ford) Snyder.

Ross grew up on the family farm and attended school through the 8 th grade at a country school house in rural Ford County. He later served in the United States Army from 1953-1955.  Ross then worked for Shamrock Pipeline and Burns Grain before starting Snyder Trucking. He later worked for Salee Incorporated, Becker, and Groendyke Trucking. Ross married Norma L. Johnston on October 13, 1970 in Raton, New Mexico.

He enjoyed working on and driving semi trucks, as well as mowing his lawn. He also enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. To many he was known as RG and Whiplash.

Ross was a member of the Moose Lodge as well as the Ford Community Church. He recently had been attending church in Fort Dodge.

He is survived by his wife, Norma Snyder of Ford; children, Kim Conley and husband Dan of Jackson, California, Karee Stout and husband Les of Ford, Larry Jon Smith of Greeley, and Angie Dow of Goodland; 13 grandchildren; 26 great grandchildren; brother, Noble Snyder of Dodge City; and sister, Delores Phillips of Macksville. Ross was preceded in death by his parents, Fredrick and Leah; brothers, Luther Snyder, Angus Snyder, Poe Snyder and two infant brothers; and sisters, Wanda Leasure, Bernice Boehme, and Virginia Snyder.

Memorial service will be held at the Kansas Veterans' Cemetery at Fort Dodge on Thursday, September 10, 2020 at 2:00 PM with Mr. Dan Conley presiding.  There will be no visitation as cremation has taken place.  Memorials are suggested to the Fort Dodge Patient Activity Fund in care of the funeral home.  Thoughts and memories may be shared in the online guest book at www.swaimfuneralhome.com.
