DODGE CITY - Roy Junior Howarter, 92, died May 7, 2012 at Western Plains Medical Complex, Dodge City. He was born on June 7, 1919 at Dodge City, the son of Roy George and Nora Olive (Mullendore) Howarter.
Mr. Howarter grew up in Osawatomie and graduated from Osawatomie High School in 1937. On December 31, 1940 he married Marjorie Phillips at Dodge City. Junior worked as a plant manager for Coca Cola for 40 years and then for Broce Manufacturing until retiring.
He was a member of the First Christian Church, Moose Lodge #1187 where he obtained the Pilgrim Degree of Merit, St. Bernard Lodge #222, AF&AM and St. Bernard Chaper #97, Order of Eastern Star all of Dodge City.
Junior is survived by his daughter, Patricia Woodruff and husband Mark of Clay Center; two grand daughters, Trista Woodruff Terry and husband Jason of Lenexa; and Taren Bloom and husband Chris of Topeka; three great grandchildren, Zachary Bloom, Megan Bloom and Caden Bloom and a sister in law Margery Howarter of Dodge City.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife and a brother Douglass Howarter.
Funeral service will be held at Swaim Funeral Home on Friday, May 11, 2012 at 10:00 AM with Dr. Phil Scott presiding. Burial will follow at Maple Grove Cemetery in Dodge City. Visitation will be at Swaim Funeral Home on Thursday, May 10, 2012 from noon to 8:00 PM. Memorials are suggested to Good Samaritan Center or Ford County Humane Society, both in care of the funeral home.
