Roy G. Reed was called home on his 94th birthday, July 22nd, 2026 after a long battle with cancer. He was born in Dighton, KS to Ralph and Clemmie (Stiawalt) Reed on July 22nd, 1932.

He was raised on a farm in Finney County and enjoyed hunting and appreciated his automobiles. Roy attended elementary school at Enterprise Country School and graduated in 1950 from Dayton High School. Roy enlisted in the Air Force in December 1950 and made a career in the Air Force. He was assigned to the Strategic Air Command and flew KC 97's and KC 135's refueling Bombers and Fighters all around the globe and he served as a pilot in the Korean and Vietnam Wars highly decorated with Honor and Valor.

He earned a bachelor's degree in Mathematics and while stationed in Blytheville, Arkansas, he met his future wife Nona Mosier and together, they traveled the world. After retiring from the Air Force they returned to Garden City, KS to be close to family and Roy was an avid reader and followed politics. In his retirement, he was a substitute teacher and helped his brother-in-law Walter Habiger farm.

He is survived by his daughter, Ann Reed; son, John Reed and his wife Woonja Choi; granddaughters, Alicia and Ashley Reed; and great grandchildren, Jonathan Cavazos and Rayne Cisneros; his sisters, Betty Keilman and Dawn Habiger; brother, Tom Reed; and numerous nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his wife, Nona Reed; his parents, Ralph and Clemmie Reed; brothers, Guy and Chester Reed; and sister Virginia Reed.

Graveside services will be held on Saturday, August 1, 2026 at 11:00 AM at the new Cimarron Cemetery on M Road with military honors by Southwest Kansas Veterans Funeral Honors and the United States Air Force Funeral Honors. Visitation will be on Friday, July 31, 2026 from 4-6 PM at Swaim Funeral Chapel, Cimarron. Memorials are suggested to the Shepherd's Center in care of the funeral home.
