Obituary

Roy W. Stevens, 66, died Saturday, January 24, 2009 at University Medical Center, Lubbock, Texas. He was born on July 23, 1942 at Grandfield, Oklahoma the son of Harold and Elsie (Barfield) Stevens.

He was a graduate of Hollister High School, Hollister, Oklahoma prior to moving to Dodge City in 1962. Roy served in the US Army from 1966 to 1968 acquiring the rank of Spec 5 while stationed in Germany. He worked for Kindsvater Trucking, Skelley Truck Stop, Dicon Construction and the last 28 years for Air Products Incorporated as a transportation engineer. Roy also owned and operated a local bar. On November 30th 1970 he married Velma Kay McLemore at Dodge City, she survives.

He was a member of Howard Gotschall Post #1714, V.F.W. of Dodge City.

Roy is survived by his wife, Velma Stevens of Dodge City; son, Roy D. (R.D.) Stevens and wife Mellisa of Joplin, Missouri; daughter, Lesa Stevens of Cromwell, Oklahoma; brother, Jerry Ray Stevens; four sisters, Bertha McKee of Lyndsey, Oklahoma, Dora Jones of Fedderick, Oklahoma, Roseann Rector of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, and Linda Wilson of Miami, Oklahoma; six grandchildren and five great grandchildren.

Funeral service will be held at Swaim Funeral Home on Thursday, January 29, 2009 at 10:00 AM with Rev. Dick Robbins presiding. Burial will follow at Maple Grove Cemetery in Dodge City with military rites by Howard Gotschall Post #1714, V.F.W.. Visitation will be at Swaim Funeral Home on Wednesday, January 28, 2009 from Noon to 8:00 PM. Memorials can be made to University Medical Center Burn Unit, Lubbock, Texas in care of the funeral home.
