Dodge City - Roy Walters, 71, died October 5, 2024 at Penrose Hospital in Colorado Springs, Colorado.  He was born on August 25, 1953 in Chicago, Illinois the son of Roy Walker and Capitela (Snyder) Walters.

He was raised in Chicago where he completed his schooling.  After graduation, Roy enlisted in the United States Army on August 26, 1971.  He was discharged on December 26, 1973.  Roy then moved to Council Bluff, Iowa where he worked for American Security.  In his spare time, Roy enjoyed building models.

Roy is preceded in death by his parents and three sisters.  He is survived by his Fort Dodge family, who cared for him since 2015 when he moved to the Kansas Soldiers Home from Leavenworth.

Graveside service will be held at Kansas Veterans' Cemetery at Fort Dodge on Tuesday, October 15, 2024 at 11:00 AM with Pastor Kirk Larson presiding. Military honors will be provided by SWKS Veterans' Funeral Honor Guard and KSARNG Funeral Honor Guard. Visitation will be at Swaim Funeral Chapel, Dodge City on Monday, October 14, 2024 from noon to 5:00 PM.  Memorials are suggested to the activity fund for the residents of Halsey Hall at Kansas Soldiers Home in care of the funeral home.  Thoughts and memories may be shared in the online guest book at www.swaimfuneralhome.com.
