Obituary

Montezuma - Ruby Fern (Jantz) Nightengale passed away October 16, 2021 at the age of 87 years. She was born to Marcus and Adina Jantz on October 13, 1934. She grew up on a farm south of Montezuma with much hardship during the depression years. Her Uncle Tobe and Aunt Mary Koehn took much care of the family.

Ruby received her schooling in Montezuma where she attended both grade school and high school. Ruby gave her heart to the Lord and was baptized into the Church of God in Christ Mennonite on May 25, 1947 by Minister Albert Unruh and remained true to her vows.

After high school, she worked at different jobs. On April 5, 1953, Ruby married Glen Nightengale. After a short time in Montezuma, they went to Baltimore, Maryland for 1-W service. To this union, three children were born, Rhonda, Kevin, and Kyle.

After 1-W service, we moved to Stapleton, Georgia to the new Pinecrest Congregation. After six years of hardship, we moved to Montezuma and resided there for some years before moving to the Copeland area where we farmed. In 1986, we moved to Phoenix, Arizona and the El Mirage Congregation. While there, we were in yard and landscape work. We enjoined are stay in Arizona. Retirement led us to Montezuma in 2011. Due to our mother's health declining, our life changed completely. From the hospital, she was transferred to Bethel Home, which we know was God's answer to prayers. We wish to thank the Bethel Home staff and nurses for their loving care.

Our mother was a good homemaker. She looked after her family very well and was always concerned for their salvation and prayed often for them. Her favorite song was "I Want To Stroll Over Heaven With You". The family would often go to Gunnison, Colorado for vacation in the summer. She enjoyed that time as a family very much. She loved to fish and look at God's creation of the mountains. She also enjoyed quilting and going to sewing circle every chance she could go.

Those left to cherish the memories are her loving husband Glen of Montezuma; daughter, Rhonda Koehn of Guntersville, Alabama; two sons, Kevin Nightengale of Dodge City and Kyle Nightengale of Montezuma; two sisters, Lilly Unruh of Georgetown, Texas and Virginia Yost of McPherson; a brother, Ervy Jantz and wife Jean of Bristow, Oklahoma; two granddaughters, Candi Peters and husband Mahlon of Monterey, Tennessee and Adriann Koehn and husband Jonathan of Mize, Mississippi; and five great grandchildren, Javanna, Charity, and Serenity Peters and Kassi and Riley Koehn. She is preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Irene Milbrandt; three brothers, Vernon, Ivan, and Dennis Jantz; and a son-in-law, Delton Koehn.

Funeral service will be held at the Homeland Mennonite Church, Montezuma on Wednesday, October 20, 2021 at 10:30 AM with Ministers Charles Schmidt, Donnie Koehn, and Lyndon Toews presiding. Burial will follow at the Homeland Cemetery. Visitation will be at Swaim Funeral Chapel of Montezuma on Tuesday, October 19, 2021 from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM. Memorials are suggested to Bethel Home in care of the funeral home. Thoughts and memories may be shared in the online guest book at www.swaimfuneralhome.com
