Rufus Neil Pierce, 91, formerly of Dodge City, died Thursday, April 15, 2010 at Lakeview Health Center, West Salem, WI.
He was born March 18, 1919 to Cornelius Abner and Elvina Katherine Pierce in Dawson, TX. On June 30, 1951, he married Norma Wyer in Hutchinson, KS. She preceded him in death on September 21, 1991. Following their marriage, they made Dodge City their home.
He served as a combat medic in the U.S. Navy during World War II.
He was a member of the Dodge City Church of Christ, the Veterans of Foreign Wars, and the American Legion.
He is survived by one daughter, Rebecca Burch and husband, David of Holmen, WI; two grandchildren, Andrew Patton and wife, Christina of La Crosse, WI, and Cara Patton of San Diego, CA.
In addition to his wife, Norma, he was preceded in death by his parents and ten brothers and sisters.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, April 24, at 9:00 A.M. at the Church of Christ, Dodge City with Mr. Kirk Castleman presiding. He will be buried alongside his wife at Maple Grove Cemetery in Dodge City with military rites provided by Howard Gotschall Post #1714 V.F.W. Memorials are suggested to the Dodge City Church of Christ, 2300 Central Ave, Dodge City, KS 67801. There will be no visitation as cremation has taken place.
