RUSSELL WARREN WEAVER
Dodge City - Russell Warren Weaver, 91, died April 6, 2012 at Cox Medical Center South in Springfield, MO. He was born on February 17, 1921 in Posey township, Indiana the son of Charles and Minda (Swearingin) Weaver.
Mr. Weaver was raised in Brazil, Indiana. Russell volunteered for the U.S. Army in 1942 serving in the medical branch for 22 years until being honorably discharged in 1964. It was during that time that he met the love of his life, Joan Rae Southworth. They were married on August 8, 1959 in Wichita and would remain together until her death on November 23, 1987. After retiring from the U.S. Army they eventually settled in Dodge City where he worked for the postal service. He was employed there for 17 years until he retired to care for his ailing mother-in-law. After Joan's death he went to work for Child Evangelist Fellowship as a volunteer and continued there for 10 years.
Russell loved to travel and would spend a great deal of time visiting relatives or friends in various parts of the country. He especially loved Florida in the spring where he could watch another of his passions, baseball. Russell was a generous man, loving husband and father who always made time for others. He was much loved and will be greatly missed.
Mr. Weaver was a member of the Dodge City Church of the Nazarene.
Russell is survived by one son, Paul Weaver of Republic, MO; one daughter, Kimberly Evel of Long Lane, MO; and three grandchildren, Celena, Shaun, and Cierra.
Graveside memorial service will be held at Maple Grove Cemetery in Dodge City on Thursday, April 12, 2012 at 11:00 AM with Rev. Dick Robbins presiding. Military rites will be conducted by Howard Gotschall Post #1714 V.F.W. There will be no public visitation as cremation has taken place.
