DODGE CITY - Ruth G. Holsten, 84, died December 28, 2011 at her home in Dodge City. She was born on August 18, 1927 at Roxanna, Texas the daughter of Robert and Clara (Gass) McGinn.
Ruth was a 1945 graduate of Deerfield High School and later attended Dodge City Community College. On February 7, 1948 she married Harold Vernon Holsten at Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Dodge City. He preceded her in death on January 15, 2000. She taught rural grade school near Dodge City for one year. Mrs. Holsten also worked at First National Bank of Dodge City and then for KTVC Channel 6 near Ensign. Her family was the most important part of her life and she enjoyed spending time with them. Ruth had a special ministry for people, where she would send them a card or letter of encouragement, to help them through a difficult time.
She was a member of the Holy Cross Lutheran Church of Dodge City, the Alter Guild and Mary Martha Guild both of the church, Red Hat Society and the Dodge City Bird Watching Club.
Ruth is survived by her son, Max Holsten and wife Midge of Ensign; their three children, Mandi Holsten; Michele Schnoebelen and husband Shane, their son, Cale; and Mikaela Holsten; daughter, Janet Joleen Holsten of Dodge City; her three children, Amber Williams and husband Eric, and son, Weston Harder; Misty Ontiberos and children, Hunter and Alexis; and Chance Montgomery; daughter, Deanne Jordan and husband Jerry of Brookshire, Texas; and children, Ryan Shrauner; and Matthew Shrauner and wife Tammy, their daugher, Jessica; and brother, Willard McGinn and wife Stella of Tecumseh. She was preceded in death by her parents and infant sister.
Funeral service will be held at Holy Cross Lutheran Church on Saturday, December 31, 2011 at 10:30 AM with Rev. Randall Jahnke presiding. Burial will follow at the Ensign Cemetery. Visitation will be at Swaim Funeral Home on Friday, December 30, 2011 from noon to 8:00 PM. Memorials are suggested to Holy Cross Lutheran Church Building Fund or The Lutheran Hour both in care of the funeral home.
