Obituary

Montezuma - Our sister and aunt, Sadie Frank was born to Edward and Elizabeth Frank on June 7, 1925 in rural Gray County. She was the oldest of seven children. She peacefully passed away at the age of 92 in the evening of April 25, 2018 at Bethel Home surrounded by her family.

Sadie spent her childhood on a farm in Haskell County. She attended school at West Banner for eight years. Life on the farm consisted of chores, gardening, sewing, cooking and caring for her younger siblings. After the passing of her father in 1953, she dedicated herself to the care of her mother and siblings. Later, Sadie was the evening cook at Bethel Home for several years before she began her teaching career. The Great Depression and World War II taught her not to waste. Scraps of clothes were good quilt material.

Sadie gave her heart to the Lord in 1939 at the age of 13. She was baptized by Minister Jacob N Yost and became a member of the Church of God in Christ Mennonite in Salem Church north of Copeland. She remained faithful to Christ looking forward for her eternal home.

She graduated high school from Montezuma. At age 27, Sadie decided to become a teacher. She received her teaching certificate from Kansas State Teachers College, Emporia. She began her career at East Banner School in 1956. She taught a total of 30 years. Sadie was the 3rd grade teacher at Sublette Elementary for 16 years. Her students fondly remember the overnight trips to the family farm after they mastered their math times tables.

In 1975, Sadie and her mother moved to Montezuma. After she retired, Sadie served the community at the Senior Center in Montezuma. She also volunteered at the Kansas Teachers' Hall of Fame.

Sadie lived her life to the fullest. She enjoyed her travels with friends and family to many places in the U.S., Canada, and throughout the world. Sadie's hobbies included collecting Depression glass, baskets and books. Along with collecting, Sadie was a master quilter. She has cut, pieced, sewn, and hand quilted numerous quilts of all shapes and sizes. All of the nieces and nephews have been blessed with several handmade quilts from Aunt Sadie, along with the great nieces and great nephews. The "great-greats" have been given baby quilts. In later years, Sadie enjoyed playing table games with her friends. Sadie loved her family and she especially enjoyed the annual Frank Family reunions.
