IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Sally Marie
Greiving
March 19, 1934 – May 28, 2020
Ingalls - Sally Marie Greiving, 86, went to be with Jesus on May 28, 2020. She was born Sally Marie Stillwell on March 19, 1934 in Fowler, the fifth of six children, to Robert Lee and Rose Evelyn (Chipman) Stillwell.
Just a few years later, the family moved to Cunningham where they remained throughout their lives. Sally graduated from Cunningham High School and went on to be a telephone switchboard operator in Pratt. One day, she and her friends saw a tall young man cruising down Main Street in Cunningham. She always said he had the prettiest blue eyes she had ever seen. After that young man, Adelphus John "Slim" Greiving, came back from a tour with the United States Army in Korea, they were married in 1953. Slim and Sally shared their lives, hopes, and dreams together, through thick and thin, for the next 67 years.
Sally was always a worker. In addition to her job as an operator she ran her own café in Sawyer, was the head cook at the Pavilion Inn of Kiowa, and worked for the Cimarron Insurance Company for 25 years. She also owned and operated Hidden Treasures Antiques with Slim and her daughter, Debbie, wrote the Ingalls area happenings for the Jacksonian Newspaper, and with Slim, ran the Gray County Museum in Ingalls until 2018 when she was 84 years old.
Sally was known far and wide for her cooking, not the least of which was her famous fried chicken, which she often catered for large gatherings and events. She always had a love for animals. Everyone around Ingalls, for almost 20 years, knew that if they saw Slim and Sally, they were sure to also see their beloved dog, Buttons, who went with them wherever they traveled. She had a collection of angels and dolls and pictures galore but Sally also loved to spend time in person or on the phone with dear friends. The greatest love of her life was the family that she and Slim built together. She will be missed by many but Sally knew and accepted Jesus and so now walks on streets of gold, reuniting with those who have gone on before and no doubt smiling down on those she left behind.
She is survived by her husband Slim; daughter, Debbie Milne and husband Tom; son, Michael Greiving and wife Tammy; a sister, Bonnie Luther; six grandchildren, Tammy Woods and husband Dusty; Amanda Benton and husband Jeff; Tommy Milne and wife Nicole; Christopher Peterson and wife Juneva; Jason Peterson; and Bethany Greiving; and 12 great grandchildren, Levi, Chantelle, Wyatt, Cheyenne, Connor, Collin, Carissa, Christian, Julyanna, Alexandria, Josh, and Miles. These families have spread out and live in Ingalls and Cimarron as well as Dalhart, Texas, Bentonville, Arkansas, Lincoln, Arkansas, and Farmington, Arkansas. The family tree is spreading, growing, and flourishing because it was planted, encouraged, and loved by Grandma Sally. Sally is preceded in death by her parents, four siblings, Florence Johnson, Robert Stillwell, Florine Kampling, and Jim Stillwell.
Funeral service will be held at Kansas Veterans' Cemetery, Fort Dodge on Tuesday, June 2, 2020 at 10:30 AM with Pastor Michael Greiving presiding. Visitation will be at Swaim Funeral Chapel, Cimarron on Monday, June 1, 2020 from 12:00 to 7:00 PM. Memorials are suggested to the Ingalls Community Bible Church in care of the funeral home. Thoughts and memories may be shared in the online guest book at www.swaimfuneralhome.com.
