Obituary

Salomon "Salo" Montes, 70, of Dodge City, KS, was called upon and ran to our heavenly father on January 16th, 2023 surrounded by our family after a long battle with heart disease.

Born to Rosario Montes and Camerina Monares (Rodriguez) in Chihuahua, Mexico. He immigrated to the US at 8 years old, graduated from Dodge City High School and later became a US citizen. During high school his artwork was displayed at the Carnegie Art Center. After he graduated, he worked as a welder at Speed King and at High Plains. Salomon was fiercely passionate about old cars and drawing. He was a passionate tinkerer, artist, landscaper, and entrepreneur. He owned two businesses, one his own car painting business, which he once painted his sister Annie's "The Beast" blue. He was proprietor of Tierra Mexicana Record Shop for his love of music.  His love of art kickstarted a career in construction and agricultural machine painting as an industrial painter, which he continued until his retirement.

In 1973, Salomon met our mom, Antonia Ramirez, and became a loving father and husband and went on to have 5 children. Salomon put family first, always, and was a dedicated father. His children went on to pursue careers in services, medicine, and electronics. Salomon was always a strong, kind, loving, and supportive father. From the start he dedicated his life to both his pursuit of painting, and his family. His knowledge and guidance was the foundation of our family.  In his later years he spent his retirement looking after his grandkids.

Salomon was preceded by his parents Rosario Montes (biological father), Cecil "Chilo" Rodriguez (adoptive father), Camerina Rodriguez (mother),  Priciliano Montes (brother) and leaves behind his sons, Alberto "Beto" Ramirez, Lorenzo "Larry" Ramirez and spouse Kay, Edgar Montes, Salomon "Salito" Montes Jr. and daughter, Christina Flores and spouse Salvador, his 23 grandchildren, and his siblings, Cecil Rodriguez, Freddy Rodriguez, Annie Rodriguez-Harris, Carolina Paudel, and grew up closely with Maria Luisa Castillo, Luz Crisostomo, Petra Perez, and Martin Perez.
