Valley Center, Kansas - Samuel Eugene Giessel, 70, died March 22, 2023 at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita.  He was born on November 11, 1952 at Spearville, Kansas the son of Alfred and Edith Mae (Knoeber) Giessel.

Sam married Kathryn Kasselman on February 24, 1973 at Windthorst, Kansas, she survives. Mr. Giessel graduated from Spearville High School and later attended a mechanic's vocational college in Denver, Colorado. He worked as a mechanic for General Contractors for several years before retiring due to health reasons. He enjoyed going fishing and working on his boat. Sam loved spending time with his grandchildren and his family in his spare time.

He is survived by his wife Katie of the home; one daughter Shannon Koehn and husband Chad of Bentley, Kansas; one son Brad Giessel of Wichita; and six grandchildren. He is also survived by five sisters Rosemary Perkins of Denver, Colorado; Trina Giessel of Ft. Collins, Colorado; Jeanne Huslig and husband Keith of Hutchinson; Trudy Hobbs and husband Pat of Dodge City; Geralyn Chronister and husband Eric of Hutchinson; four brothers Bruce Giessel and wife Brenda of Dodge City; Paul Giessel of Spearville; John Giessel of Spearville and George Giessel and wife Joy of Minneola, Kansas and numerous nieces and nephews.

Sam was preceded in death by his parents, one brother Walt and three nephews Jarrod, Lonnie and Travis Laudick.

Funeral service will be held at Swaim Funeral Chapel on Monday March 27, 2023 at 10:00 AM with Mr. Jeff Hiers presiding.  Burial will follow at St. John's Cemetery in Spearville.  Visitation will be at Swaim Funeral Chapel on Sunday, March 26, 2023 from 12:00 PM to 6:00 PM.  Memorials are suggested to National MS Society or the Perfect Fit Foundation in care of the funeral home.
