SCOTT DOUGLAS MCDONALD

Dodge City - Scott Douglas McDonald, 68, departed this life to dwell in his Heavenly Home which the Lord Jesus Christ has prepared for him on Thursday August 7, 2014. He was born on September 30, 1945 at Great Bend, the fifth child of Hugh and Ruby (Ekhoff) McDonald.

He grew up on a farm north of Hanston and attended various schools in the area. He took custodial classes instead of finishing high school at Larned. He did acquire his GED 44 years later on June 1, 2008 at Cimarron.

Scott worked at the Lora-Locke Hotel as a dishwasher, bottled pop at the Pepsi-Cola plant, worked 32 years as a custodian at the Ingalls School, five years at St. Catherine Hospital in plant operations in Garden City and ten years at the Village Square Mall as a custodian. His interests were reading books about the old west, watching DVD's and writing his own personal history.

He was a member of the Grace Community Church, the Y.M.C.A. and the Christian Motorcycle Association all of Dodge City.

On December 14, 1968 he married Loretta Ellen Foster at the First Baptist Church in Dodge City. They later divorced after 20 years of marriage and were remarried on June 13, 1993 at Hutchinson having enjoyed 21 more years of married bliss before his death.

Scott is survived by his wife Loretta McDonald, Dodge City; a daughter Catherine Little and husband Jeremy, Edgerton; a grandson Aidan Little; granddaughter Lenora Little; three sisters, Mary Mickle, Hoisington, Donna Mitchell, Salt Lake City, Utah and Kathleen Bolson, Brighton, Colorado. He was preceded in death by two sons Jake and Brian, a brother Leslie and his parents.

Funeral service will be held at Grace Community Church Tuesday, August 12, 2014 at 2:00 P.M. with Pastor Kirk Larson presiding. Burial will follow at Maple Grove Cemetery in Dodge City with Pastor Richard Deimund officiating. Visitation will be at Swaim Funeral Home, Dodge City on Monday, August 11, 2014 from Noon to 8:00 P.M.. Memorials are suggested to American Heart Assn. or the National Kidney Foundation of Kansas in care of the funeral home.
