Obituary

Sharon June Unruh

Montezuma - Our wife, mother and grandmother, Sharon June Unruh was born on June 1, 1945 to Elmer and Viola (Unruh) Jantz in Merced, California. She left us on Dec. 8, 2020, at the age of seventy-five. Her death was a result of complications of COVID-19. Her earthly body was tired, and she was ready to be released from it.

She grew up in a happy home with two brothers and six sisters on a forty-acre farm just north of Winton, California.  She enjoyed singing with her siblings and time spent with friends. She was baptized into the Church of God in Christ, Mennonite on Dec. 7, 1958 by Minister Edward Jantz.

Sharon married Dale Unruh on May 2, 1969. They shared just over fifty-one years of married life. They lived in California for a short time before making their home in Montezuma, Kansas. She was a busy mother raising four boys. Family was very important to her. She enjoyed Christmas time and buying gifts for each grandchild. Sharon relished babysitting, turning times with her grandchildren into memorable events, including tea parties with printed menus, scrapbooking, and excursions to the park.

She shared a close relationship with her siblings and enjoyed visiting with them on the phone. Christian life was important to her. She encouraged each of us children to give our hearts to the Lord and rejoiced with us in our victories.

Sharon appreciated the simple things in life - a table set just right, a cup of tea with friends, a clean house Saturday night. She had a real talent for drawing and oil painting. She enjoyed a number of years working at Bethel Home in the activities department.

Many family vacations were enjoyed together, and she was happiest when she was with her family.
Health issues made it necessary to move into Bethel Home. Dad came to see her nearly every day. Their love was real and enduring through health and sickness.

She is survived by her husband, Dale; four sons, Brandon and Heather of Montezuma; Lonnie and Deb of Glenn, California; Darren and Jenn, and Teryl and Kara all of Montezuma; and 14 grandchildren. Also surviving are six sisters, two brothers, and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, parents in law and two brothers in law.

Funeral service will be held at Homeland Mennonite Church, Montezuma on Saturday, December 12, 2020 at 10:30 AM with Ministers Luther Smith, Donnie Koehn and Lyndon Toews presiding. Burial will follow at Homeland Mennonite Cemetery. Visitation will be at Swaim Funeral Chapel, Montezuma on Friday, December 11, 2020 from noon to 8:00 PM. Memorials are suggested to Bethel Home in care of the funeral home. Thoughts and memories may be shared in the online guest book at www.swaimfuneralhome.com.
